The news is flashed over television and just as the junior doctor receives international recognition, he has to suffer humiliation from the professional jealousy and abuse of power from his seniors.

Tapan Sinha (b. 1924 - 2009, in Kolkata) began his career as a sound engineer at New Theatres before turning director. He made his debut with ANKUSH (1954) and emerged as a major voice of socially rooted, literate cinema. He is best known for KABULIWALLA (1956), KSHUDITA PASHAN (1960), ATITHI (1965) and BANCHCHARAMER BAGAN (1980), drawing extensively from Bengali literature. Working across Bengali and Hindi cinema, he made nearly 40 films marked by moral clarity, strong music, and humanist concerns. He received the DADASAHEB PHALKE AWARD (2006) and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
