The film is based on a 12-page short story by renowned writer Gorur Ramaswamy Iyengar.

S. Siddalingaiah (1936 - 2015) was a leading Kannada film director, screenwriter, and producer from Taruru village, Tumkur district, Karnataka. He began his career assisting directors such as B. Vittalacharya before making his directorial debut with MAYOR MUTHANNA (1969), starring Dr. Rajkumar. He went on to direct around 23 films, balancing strong social themes with popular appeal. His landmark success BANGARADA MANUSHYA (1972) ran for nearly two years. Other notable works include NYAYAVE DEVARU (1971), NAMMA SAMSARA (1971), DOORADA BETTA (1973), BILIGIRIYA BANADALLI (1980), BHOOTHAYI MAKKALU (1994), and PREMA PREMA PREMA (1999).
