Hunsur Krishnamurthy (1914–1989), born in Hunsur, Karnataka, was a notable Kannada and Telugu filmmaker known for stage-inspired mythological and moral dramas, often starring Dr. Rajkumar. He began his career in theatre and as a bit actor, later working as a scenarist for major studios, including the Kannada remake MADHUVE MADI NODU (1965). From the late 1950s, he directed mid-budget films marked by strong emotions and ethical themes. His important films include SATYA HARISHCHANDRA (1965), SHRI KANNIKA PARAMESHWARI KATHE (1966), JAGA MECHIDA MAGA (1972), and BHAKTA KUMBARA (1974), which remain significant in Kannada cinema history.
