KANNESHWARA RAMA THE LEGENDARY OUTLAW M. S. SATHYU

Kanneshwara Rama is a political drama, adapted from S. K. Nadig's novel “Kannayya Rama”. Set in the 1920s, it follows the titular character, Kanneshwara Rama, as he defies oppressive village leadership and becomes an outlaw, having dared to confront British colonial oppression. He leads his band of rebels in their fight for justice and their people’s freedom. The film achieved both critical and commercial success during its 1989 theatrical release, completing a 100-day run.

M. S. Sathyu (b. 1930, Mysore) is an eminent filmmaker, theatre director, and stage designer who has worked across Hindi, Kannada, and English cinema. He has directed and produced feature films, documentaries, television series, and advertisements. His Partition classic GARM HAVA (1974) was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes FF and was India’s official entry to the Oscars. His Kannada film BARA (1981) won the National Award for Best Kannada Film. Other notable works include CHITEGU CHINTE (1979), and KAYAR (1992). He received the Padma Shri (1975), Karnataka Rajyotsava Award (1982), and Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship (2015).
