In the early 2000s, in a small Anatolian town, ten-year-old Esma watches her world slowly fall apart after a factory explosion triggers a fire that never seems to end. As smoke spreads across the land and her family struggles to get by, daily life becomes uncertain and fragile. Caught between fear and innocence, Esma clings to her childhood, finding quiet strength in small moments. AS WE BREATHE is a sensitive coming-of-age story about growing up amid unseen catastrophe, resilience, and the stubborn persistence of hope.

Seyhmus Altun (b.1988), born in Diyarbakır, Turkey, graduated in Cinema and Television from Istanbul Bilgi University and later pursued a master’s degree there. He worked at Dinamo Istanbul before co-founding Mental Film in 2018. Alongside filmmaking, he has directed commercials for brands including P&G, Unilever, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota. His short film ALL LIGHTS WE CAN’T SEE won awards at festivals in Turkey, Russia, Italy, and Canada. His debut feature, AS WE BREATHE, was selected for WIP Europa with the title "Memento Non Mori".
