Abbas Fahdel (b.1959), born in Babylon, Iraq, is a Franco-Iraqi filmmaker and writer with a PhD in cinema from the Sorbonne. After studying in France, he returned to Iraq to document his homeland, directing BACK TO BABYLON (2002) and WE IRAQIS (2004), filmed amid war and its aftermath. His work blends fiction and documentary, including DAWN OF THE WORLD (2004) and the landmark HOMELAND: IRAQ YEAR ZERO (2015). Based in Lebanon, he has directed YARA (2018), BITTER BREAD (2019), TALES OF THE PURPLE HOUSE (2022). TALES OF THE WOUNDED LAND is his recent documentary.
