ARIEL LOIS PATIÑO

Ariel is a metatheatrical cinematic game about an Argentine actress who arrives on a strange and fascinating island (the Azores), where its inhabitants have transcended to become Shakespearean characters. She soon discovers that the play has begun, that the entire island is a stage, and all its inhabitants are characters.

Lois Patiño (b.1983, Vigo) is a Spanish filmmaker and an artist. Lois is a leading figure of the "Novo Cinema Galego," known for his contemplative, sensory explorations of landscape and death. He gained international acclaim with COAST OF DEATH (2013), winning Best Emerging Director at Locarno IFF. His subsequent features include RED MOON TIDE (2020) and SAMSARA (2023), which won the Special Jury Award at the Berlinale IFF. ARIEL is his latest feature.
